The  Topical Activity Group  “Dissipative and Port-Hamiltonian Systems, Modelling, Simulation, Control, and Optimization” of the European Mathematical Society is co-chaired by Birgit Jacob (Wuppertal)  and Denis Matignon (Toulouse). The goal is to form a European platform for the many ongoing activities on port-Hamiltonian systems.

The French-Dutch-German Doctoral College “Port-Hamiltonian Systems: Modeling, Numerics and Control”, funded by the French-German University, offers training opportunities for PhD students from Germany, France and the Netherlands on the development and application of structured, energy-based methods for modeling, numerical approximation and control of port-Hamiltonian systems. University of Wuppertal is  a partner of this doctoral college and  organized the 3rd workshop in March 2023.

Projects

This doctoral network, coordinated by Birgit Jacob (Wuppertal), concentrates on the modeling and control of flexible structures interacting with fluids. It is a network dedicated to the training of PhD students. One work package is dedicated to port-Hamiltonian  methods in the analysis and control of n-dimensional flexible structures.

Anthony Hastir, funded by a Walter Benjamin position of the DFG, strengthens the Port-Hamiltonian Institute through his expertise in systems theory for infinite-dimensional port-Hamiltonian systems. He is particularly interested in  properties of the transfer functions, in the Linear-Quadratic optimal control problem and the associated operator Riccati equation.
